Yoon Suk-Yeol, President of South Korea says North Korea has reached the point in it’s missile and nuclear program that it’s a threat to world peace. Yoon Suk-Yeol took office last month. Yoon and Joe Biden are going to work together to upgrade joint drills. The U.S. and S. Korea fired a joint missile launch Monday.
At 4:45 a.m. Monday, the U.S. and S. Korea fired 8 missiles in 10 minutes time. One missile was a U.S. missile. The other 7 were S. Korean. This was a response to the 8 missiles N. Korea shot off on Sunday. The missiles were to show N. Korea that the U.S. and S. Korea are have the ability and are ready to take out N. Korea’s missiles or command center. Yoon said that S. Korea will continue to build it’s capability to deter N. Korea. The ROK-U.S. Alliance is committed to peace in the Indo-Pacific.
The missiles N. Korea shot off on Sunday was the largest test they have done. For the first time in more than 4 years an American aircraft carrier was used in the exercise with the U.S. and S. Korea. Japan also joined the U.S. in an exercise because of the N. Korean test. North Korea has accused the U.S. of “hostile policies” while talking of diplomacy.
Ewha University professor in Seoul says that S. Koreas missile defense is not enough. It appears that N. Korea is ready to start nuclear testing for the first time since 2017. Biden was in Asia to talk about new ways to deter N. Korea. N. Korea fired off missiles after Biden’s trip.
The U.S. asked the U.N. to place more sanctions on N. Korea. China and Russia vetoed the idea. This split the U.N. security counsel.
